Arenal Horseback Riding and Waterfall Tour
Horseback riding is by far one of the best ways to explore Arenal, for inexperienced and experienced riders alike. This tour’s destination is a gigantic, breathtaking waterfall which you can view in its majesty from its summit, or descend steps to the base to admire its awesome power and beauty and even swim in the ochre-turquoise pools surrounding! This is sure to refresh our riders after your bilingual guide leads you and your experienced horses through farmland, river and road for an hour or more for the full horseback riding tour. Those not as equestrian-minded can still arrange a tour to the waterfall by car.
Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Tour
The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is an unparalleled destination for birding and animal observation. In addition to an abundance of birds, Caño Negro is also home to animals such as sloths, three types of monkeys, caimans, lizards, bats, and a variety of flora native of the wetlands. Our tour to this beautiful region leaves from La Fortuna and travels approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to Los Chiles, a rustic village just three kilometers from the Nicaraguan border. Then we begin our boat ride to the wetlands where you will see many bird and animal species. Around noon we will stop along the river for a typical Costa Rican lunch before heading back to Los Chiles to return by bus to La Fortuna.
Bird Watching Walk
Costa Rica is a heaven for bird watching, boasting more than 870 bird species. For bird watching in La Fortuna, we set two different walks in the early morning or at dusk when sighting is best. These tours are catered to your interest and can take place in the greater La Fortuna area or just close to your hotel. You can expect to see a colorful display of our famous tropical birds including toucans, parrots, oropendolas, colorful tanagers and parakeets. For more experienced birders, we focus on looking for Royal Flycatchers, White-fronted Nun birds, Cinnamon Woodpeckers and other less commonly seen species. Our experienced guides know the best areas for bird watching, and are very informative about these fascinating creatures.
ATV Tour
The Quad or ATV tour is a rugged adventure that gives you, mid-action, some of the most stunning views of the Arenal Volcano. You’ll wrangle your quad over open pasture land, following your experienced guide to Lago de Los Lirios (Lilly Lake), the only lake in the area that contains sulfur residues from the volcano. From there you`ll rumble down a trail that cuts through a Tropical Humid Forest surrounding you with the area’s brilliant flora and exotic fauna before arriving at a breath-taking lookout point where you and can refresh with fruit and drink while enjoying one of the best views of the volcano. Here your expert naturalist guide will share facts and anecdotes about Arenal Volcano’s fascinating history and characteristics. Your two hours of combining adrenaline with nature will top off with some final notes of interest about the area’s beautiful and dangerous crocodiles, frogs and butterflies.
White Water Rafting: Class 3-4 Rio Toro
Rafting on the Rio Toro (Bull River) is nothing less than a total adrenaline rush! The powerful Rio Toro is the closest river for Class 3-4 rafting to La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano. Your rafting adventure involves coursing down a series of 45 continuous rapids through a tropical canyon surrounded by lush foliage and fauna, sparkling waterfalls, and spectacularly colored birds and butterflies. This is three hours of rowing and not for the faint of heart or body! Your expert guides will help you and your boat partners work as a team to safely enjoy this incredible experience and sense of accomplishment that only fully immersing yourself in this exotic nature allows.

Make sure to bring: Clothes and shoes comfortable when wet (shoes should be boat shoes, water shoes or tennis shoes), a change of dry clothes in a plastic bag, sun block, and a sense of adventure!
Zip-Line Canopy Tour: SKY TREK with SKY TRAM
Zip-lining is the only way to see the rain forest canopy from the perspective of the birds and monkeys, zooming from tree top to tree top, with unbelievable views in between! Your Sky Trek adventure begins with a Sky Tram ride that brings you to the highest point of the Arenal Reserve. Next, your two expert guides credited by the Costa Rican tourism board will assist you with safety equipment to try out your first two practice zip lines. Some find the experience a rush of adrenaline, and others a peaceful ride with a unique perspective. However, if at this point you decide that the zip lines aren’t for you, you are welcome to return with the Sky Tram. To go on, the tour includes 8 cross-sectional cables that together have a total length of 2.8 Km. with a distance from 30 to 760 meters, and a height of 20 to 200. The cables allow you to zip through the trees and also above them, where you may get unique glimpses of gorgeous Arenal Volcano, if the weather allows.
